Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about RAVAM’s autonomous drone monitoring platform, from hardware to deployment.

Company & Platform
RAVAM is an Industrial IoT company that builds autonomous drone monitoring platforms for critical infrastructure. The platform has three pillars: autonomous UAV systems with multi-sensor payloads and nest stations, cloud-based Command Center software for fleet management and mission control, and AI-powered analytics for real-time anomaly detection and predictive maintenance. We enable organizations to transition from manual inspections to 24/7 autonomous monitoring.
We serve 12 core sectors: oil & gas pipeline monitoring, power line & electrical infrastructure, solar & wind farms, mining & mineral exploration, underground infrastructure, water & utilities, railway & transportation, precision agriculture, construction & site management, forestry management, emergency response, and general infrastructure monitoring. Each solution is configured with the right drone platform, sensors, and software for the specific use case.
RAVAM is headquartered in Victoria, Canada and R&D Belgrade, Serbia, with global teams across North America, Africa, China, and Indonesia.
Drone Platforms
Two core platforms:

Long-Range VTOL — Tilt-rotor fixed-wing that transitions between multi-rotor hover and fixed-wing cruise. Available in Standard (126 min, 7.5 kg, 30 m/s) and Pro (179 min, 16.8 kg). Designed for corridor patrols: pipelines, power lines, railways. View VTOL drones →

Short-Range Multi-Rotor — Precision quad-rotor with 42-minute endurance, 6-direction obstacle avoidance, and 3 interchangeable gimbals. For area monitoring, thermal inspection, and Drone-as-First-Responder (DFR) deployment. View multi-rotor drone →
It takes off vertically like a multi-rotor (no runway needed), then the wingtip motors tilt forward and it transitions to efficient fixed-wing flight at 17–30 m/s. For landing, it transitions back to multi-rotor mode and descends vertically onto the nest station landing pad. The transition is fully automatic — no pilot input required.
Standard: 7.5 kg, 9 kg MTOW, 1.5 kg payload, 126-minute endurance, 277.2 Wh battery. Supports all 4 gimbals (Z2, T3, T3H, L20T). Nest version ships with DG-L20T and 107-minute endurance.

Pro: 16.8 kg, 19 kg MTOW, 2.2 kg payload, 179-minute endurance, 822.36 Wh battery. Supports DG-L20T and DG-L50T (extended-range gimbal). Designed for maximum coverage per sortie.
VTOL gimbals (quick-detach E-type mount, all 4K video):
DG-Z2: 20x optical zoom (240x hybrid) + 12 MP wide-angle
DG-T3: Zoom + 640×512 thermal (−20°C to 550°C)
DG-T3H: 1280×1024 HD thermal + laser rangefinder (10–1200 m)
DG-L20T: Zoom + wide + thermal + laser (full suite)
DG-L50T: Extended-range (Pro only)

Multi-rotor gimbals: thermal imaging, night vision, and telephoto zoom.

Exploration sensors: magnetometer, GPR, electromagnetic (EM), LiDAR, multispectral, and IP/resistivity modules.
Yes. Both platforms support fully autonomous BVLOS operations when paired with a nest station and the Command Center. The VTOL uses RTK positioning (1 cm horizontal accuracy), quad-GNSS navigation (GPS + Galileo + BeiDou + GLONASS), ADS-B airspace awareness, geofencing, and terrain obstacle avoidance. Regulatory approval for BVLOS operations varies by jurisdiction — we assist customers with the authorization process.
Nest Stations
A nest station is a ground-based docking unit that houses, launches, recovers, and recharges the drone autonomously. It enables 24/7 operations with zero manual intervention. The drone takes off, executes its mission, returns to the nest, and the nest handles everything — battery management, weather monitoring, data upload, and mission scheduling — all controlled remotely through the Command Center.
The long-range nest (590 kg, IP54, 304 stainless steel) has automatic battery swap with 6 battery slots. After landing, a robotic arm removes spent batteries and installs charged ones. It includes climate control (−35°C to 50°C), weather monitoring (wind, rain, temperature, humidity), interior/exterior cameras, RTK + visual QR precision landing, 40 kA surge protection, and UPS backup. Connectivity via Ethernet, 4G, 5G, or fiber. Learn more →
The short-range nest (70 kg, IP55) is a compact station with automated door, charging pad, weather monitoring, and 4G/WiFi connectivity. It charges the drone directly on the landing pad (no battery swap). Supports both autonomous and manual piloted flights. Truck-mountable for rapid mobile deployment. Learn more →
Both nests have built-in weather monitoring. The Command Center automatically delays or cancels missions when conditions exceed safe thresholds (wind, rain, temperature). The long-range nest operates from −35°C to 50°C with internal climate control (A/C + heater). The VTOL aircraft handles winds up to 12 m/s and operates from −20°C to 50°C. In extreme conditions, the aircraft lands at a pre-set backup landing point if the nest is unreachable.
Software & Data
A cloud-based flight control platform for managing your entire drone fleet from any browser. Key capabilities include mission planning and scheduling, up to 32 simultaneous live video channels, remote aircraft control via keyboard/mouse, fleet and nest management, role-based team access, and offline map support. No installation required. Learn more →
RAVAM Mapper is a geospatial processing platform that turns drone-collected imagery into 2D orthomosaics, 3D models, point clouds, and digital elevation models. It supports multi-spectral analysis, thermal data overlay, and GIS integration (ArcGIS, QGIS export). Available as cloud or on-premise deployment. Learn more →
Mission data (images, video, sensor readings) is stored both on the gimbal’s onboard memory card (up to 512 GB) and uploaded to the RAVAM cloud via the nest station’s network connection. The Command Center provides a Media Gallery for browsing, downloading, and exporting flight data. Enterprise customers can configure on-premise storage or private cloud options.
Deployment & Pricing
Four models:

1. Complete Turnkey System — Drones + nest stations + software + training + support. Ready to deploy out of the box.
2. Managed Service — We deploy, operate, and maintain everything. You receive data and insights.
3. Software License Only — Use Command Center and Mapper with your existing drone infrastructure.
4. Custom Integration — Tailored to your workflows with API access and custom development.
We use a custom pilot program approach. Pricing depends on the deployment model, number of sites, drone platform, sensor configuration, and service level. We start with a pilot deployment to prove value at your specific site before scaling. Contact us for a tailored proposal →
The short-range nest can be operational within a day — it’s compact (70 kg) and truck-mountable. The long-range nest requires site preparation (concrete base, power, lightning protection, network) and typically takes 1–2 weeks for full installation, configuration, image transmission matching, and flight testing. Software-only deployments can begin immediately after account provisioning.
The VTOL aircraft follows a tiered maintenance schedule: Type A (daily pre/post-flight), Type B (every 100 hours or 6 months), Type C (200 hours / 12 months — compulsory factory service), and Type D (300 hours / 18 months — full overhaul). Batteries are retired at 200 charge cycles or 1 year. Nest station components carry a 1-year warranty with annual maintenance cycles. OTA firmware updates are delivered through the Command Center.
Yes. Autonomous and BVLOS drone operations require regulatory authorization in most jurisdictions. Requirements vary by country — typically involving operational risk assessments, airspace authorization, and remote pilot certification. RAVAM assists customers with the regulatory process and configures systems to comply with local requirements including geofencing, no-fly zones, and ADS-B transponder integration.
